The Difference Between Astaxanthin and Other Antioxidants

May. 23. 2023

(1) The first generation of antioxidants

1. Vitamin A (beauty vitamin)

2. Vitamin C

3. Vitamin E

(2) The second generation of antioxidants

1. β-carotene

2. Coenzyme Q10

3. SOD superoxide dismutase

(3) The third generation of antioxidants

1. Anthocyanins (OPC)

2. Grape seed

3. Blueberry Extract

4. Green tea

5. Lipoic Acid

6. Lycopene

(4) The fourth generation of antioxidants - natural astaxanthin

It mainly comes from Haematococcus pluvialis, because the content of astaxanthin in Haematococcus pluvialis is 1.5%-3.0%, which is regarded as the "concentrated product" of natural astaxanthin. Various studies have confirmed that astaxanthin can scavenge free radicals well whether it is fat-soluble or water-soluble. Moreover, astaxanthin can block the generation of free radicals before free radicals occur.

Salient Features of Natural Astaxanthin

1. Antioxidant

Astaxanthin has extremely strong penetrating power and can penetrate the three major human barriers of the blood-brain barrier, blood-pancreas barrier, and blood-testis barrier, and can penetrate the blood-brain barrier, so it is possible to act on brain cells and eye retinas rare carotenoids. During the oxidation of carotenoids and their derivatives, the ability to quench active oxygen increases with the increase of conjugated double bonds. Among them, astaxanthin has a strong antioxidant capacity.

Astaxanthin is a chain-breaking antioxidant. Scientists compared with similar structure, but different number of conjugated double bonds, such as: lutein, zeaxanthin, lycopene, isozeaxanthin and so on. Studies have found that astaxanthin has the strongest ability to scavenge free radicals, so it is believed that the existence and number of hydroxyl and ketone groups in carotenoids and their derivatives are very important for scavenging free radicals. The experiment also found that astaxanthin can also effectively prevent the peroxidation of phospholipids and other lipids.

2. Anti-aging

The natural astaxanthin in Haematococcus pluvialis can penetrate the outer wall of human cells, directly remove oxygen free radicals in cells, enhance cell regeneration, protect cell and DNA health, reduce the accumulation of aging cells, and delay aging.

3. Protect the skin

Haematococcus pluvialis extract can penetrate into every skin cell, rebuild collagen and protein matrix, and reshape skin elasticity; comprehensively resist ultraviolet radiation, inhibit melanin production, prevent dermatitis and skin cancer; strengthen the skin's "insulation barrier" , fully maintain skin moisture.

4. Protect eye health

Haematococcus pluvialis extract can cross the "blood-retinal barrier", repair the oxidative damage of the eye, and reach any part of the eye, quickly improving eye diseases caused by study and work.

5. Maintain the health of the cardiovascular system

Oxidation of low-density protein (LDL) in the blood is an important cause of arteriosclerosis and high blood pressure. The intake of a large amount of cholesterol in the modern diet increases this risk. Haematococcus pluvialis extract can prevent LDL from being oxidized, increase high-density lipoprotein (HDL), reduce the formation of plaque deposits, restore blood vessel elasticity, improve blood flow, thereby reducing the chances of high blood pressure, stroke and heart attack.

6. Maintain joint and connective tissue health

The extract of Haematococcus pluvialis can improve rheumatoid arthritis and relieve joint pain. Long-term data show that 80% of arthritis patients are improved due to Haematococcus pluvialis.

7. Boosts strength and stamina

Haematococcus pluvialis natural astaxanthin can strengthen aerobic metabolism, reduce muscle pain and improve endurance; reduce muscle damage and shorten recovery time; promote fat burning and obtain higher energy levels; maintain joint function after strenuous exercise and prevent obesity .
